Michael D. Hendricks

Mike Hendricks joined DGGS as a geospatial analyst in August 2014. He is responsible for geospatial data management and distribution at DGGS. He also develops geospatial databases, tools, models and maps to support the Division's geologic mission. Previous to joining DGGS, Mike served on the faculty of the United States Military Academy's Geospatial Information Science Program at West Point. While in that position, he taught GIS and conducted applied research in spatio-temporal analysis and land navigation education using location-based technology. He developed and managed the "Geospatially Enabled Land Navigation Training Support System," which incorporated GPS tracking, mobile computing, 2D and 3D geovisualizations, and simulations.

Projects and/or Research Interests

  • Creating lidar based hillshade mosaic datasets and web services from publically available point cloud data of Alaska to support the DGGS lidar bulk download application. http://maps.dggs.alaska.gov/lidar
  • Management and generation of GIS web services to support the Division's interactive web based apps. http://maps.dggs.alaska.gov
  • Building custom ArcGIS Models and Python Scripts to support various projects. One example is a custom model used to generate predicted shoreline GIS layers.
